More About Lisa Blue Baron
A trial lawyer and licensed psychologist, Lisa Blue possesses the both the legal and psychological insights needed to represent mesothelioma victims effectively and compassionately. She knows the legal complexities of mesothelioma well because over the past three decades she and her husband, the late Fred Baron, helped shape the course of mesothelioma legal history.
Asbestos law expertise
Lisa Blue has focused on environmental and toxic tort law since she began in private practice in 1985 at Baron & Budd, one of the largest environmental law firms in the United States and named one of the 16 most successful plaintiffs' firms in the country according to American Lawyer, 2004. She and husband Fred Baron formed Baron & Blue in 2002, specializing in representing victims of occupational disease and industrial pollution. Fred Baron was one of the first attorneys to uncover the harm caused by the use of asbestos-containing products in 1977. He took on these complicated cases when few other lawyers would. Later he was a leader in challenging class action settlements in which corporations attempted to settle liability for a fraction of what individuals would otherwise be entitled. Twice he led successful battles in the United States Supreme Court to defeat such settlements. As a result, future victims of toxic injuries can no longer have their rights compromised by class action settlements in which they have no voice.
Lisa Blue and Fred Baron successfully represented hundreds of victims and gained a wealth of invaluable experience with each case. Blue’s detailed knowledge of mesothelioma gives her an edge in representing clients who cannot afford the delays often attempted by companies trying to avoid a settlement.
Psychology expertise
In addition to her expertise in the asbestos law, Blue is also famed for her expertise in the psychology of jury selection. Before becoming an attorney, Blue trained and worked as a psychologist. She is licensed and certified by the American Board of Forensic Psychology and the American Board of Professional Psychology. She has two master’s degrees from the University of Virginia in Counseling Psychology and a PhD in counseling psychology from North Texas State University.
Blue’s 2004 book Blue’s Guide to Jury Selection is considered the “Bible” of jury selection. Published by Thomson West and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and co-authored with jury consultant Robert Hirschhorn, the Blue Guide shows how crucial psychology can be in be jury selection and communication. She has written numerous professional articles and given more than 200 lectures on topics such as jury selection, trial psychology, and witness preparation through organizations such as the State Bar of Texas, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Trial Lawyers Associations of various states, and Harvard University.
Blue maintains a small practice as a counseling and forensic psychologist and assists in selecting juries and preparing witnesses as part of her psychology practice. Prior to private law practice in 1985, Lisa was an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas and prosecuted over 125 criminal cases to verdict. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the South Texas College of Law.
